Do you like to write lists? I do. :) I could write lists of things I want to do/need to do all day. The only problem is, then I feel like I need to accomplish everything on that infinitely long list. There's always so much to do and far too little time to do it all.

Junior year was especially crazy (and I hear it only gets busier the older you get!) One morning, I was feeling especially stressed. My list of things to do that day was impossibly long. I could already feel myself wilting under the weight of the day's burdens. Only a few minutes into the day, I crashed. Like an overloaded aircraft, I came spiraling down in a nose dive. I knew I needed to start this day over. And this time, I needed to start it out right.

With Jesus. So...back to my bed I went. Not to go back to sleep and ignore all that needed to be done, but to come to Jesus and lay my burdens at His feet. ("Come to Me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light") I knew my priorities had been out of place, and so before Him, I asked what He wanted from me that day. And you know what He said?

He spoke softly to my heart that only one thing needed to be on my list. And that was to please Him. Then, everything else would fall into place ("Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well")

So, I found my loooong list, and I tore it up. Then, taking out my sticky notes I wrote in large clear lettering:

To Do Today:

-Make Jesus Smile

Focus on that one thing. And even if you aren't able to accomplish all you think you need to do in the day, if you've made Jesus smile, you've done it right. :)

One more thing. Is there a story in the Bible this reminds you of? It reminds me of Mary and Martha. Martha was so stressed and busy, while Mary simply sat at Jesus' feet enjoying Him. And Jesus told Martha, "You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed- or indeed, only one. Mary has chosen what is better"

Let us choose what is better.
